With the purpose of improving and making a contribution to the quality of life for healthier lives in the future, Nestle supports the accomplishment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals through its three aims --- to make 50 million children have healthier livers, to help 30 million livelihoods across communities that form part of the company’s stakeholders .
History of Nestlé in 150 year
In 1866, Charles and George Page founded Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company, offering Milkmaid brand in Europe. In 1867, Henri Nestle, a German-born pharmacist, founded Nestle, developing infant milk as an alternative to breastmilk. Rivalry ensued between Nestle and Anglo-Swiss when they both started offering substitute versions of the other’s original products: infant cereal and condensed milk. In 1882, Anglo-Swiss made expansion in the US but was halted due to the death of George Page. In 1902, Anglo-Swiss sold its operations in the US. In 1905, Nestle Group was born from the merger between Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company and Nestle which was the company that Henri Nestle established. Nestle started producing chocolate for export through Peter & Kohler. Since 1905, Nestle Group has expanded with subsidiaries across Asia, Africa, Australia, and Latin America, thereby becoming a global company. In 1916, Nestle Group bought Egron, a Norwegian dairy company for the production of milk powder. From after the war to the Great Depression, Nestle Group experienced crisis but also made developments in management and research that led to long lasting product lines, including Nescafe coffee. During World War II, Nestle Group supplied both the military and civilians with its products. After the war, Nestle Group expanded its product range and experienced growth throughout the post-war period. In the early 70s, Nestle Group entered the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. From the 1980s to 2005, Nestle Group made further expansion, promoting its profitable brands and discarding the dull ones. From 2006 to date, Nestle has continued to expand and enhanced its market position for its brands. Moreover, the company launched the Nestlé Cocoa Plan and Nescafé Plan to promote sustainability across its supply chains for cocoa and coffee .

  1. I didn't know that Nestle started as a company that made infant milk, nor did I know that they have expanded into the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. When I think of Nestle all I really think of is chocolate and candy, and I had no idea that they did other stuff as well. I also didn't realize how long they had been around, and that they supplied products during World War II.

    1. Nestle is a very big food company at now, but there are still many food companies in the world, which are Nestle' competitors. If Nestle wants to gain more profit than others, they should be more diversification. So they have some other industries rather than chocolate and candy

  2. I was not aware of how extensive Nestle was, or that they reached industries other than food. I looked up some of their brands and was surprised to learn that they own Purina and Friskies cat food. Purina sticks out to me because that extends their business to farms as they supply feed for cows, pigs, goats, etc. They also own Kit-Kat, which is my favorite candy. Even if I do not approve of the way they continue to obtain cocoa unethically, I suppose I still support their business since I consume so many of their products. It is hard not to when they own so much.

    1. I also buy many of their products, since I was young. I can say I am the Nestle's loyal customer. I really like their products, such coffee and tea. I hope that they can find other resource of their products.

  3. I didn't know that Nestle has a long history for about 150 years and it seemed to become a large global company very early, around 100 years ago. Since I don't usually purchase Nestle's products in daily life, from what I've known about it was just coffee and milk powder. It was nice and suprised to know that Nestle supplied both the military and civilians during WWII. Also it was interesting that the Nestle company has extended to cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. It seems to me that this company extends very big.

    1. I agree with you that the Nestle become a early large global company, even earlier than its competitors. Also, the Nestle have many different kinds of products, so they attract different people to buy their products. That is why the Nestle extends very large at present.
